Growing up I always knew my calling in life had to do with helping others in need. My grandmother is a huge part of my life; her presence led me to the current inspiring path once I graduated. During my last two semesters, I was lucky enough to volunteer for one of the largest hospices. As a volunteer, I visited patients or connected with their loved ones during this difficult time.
I found myself to be a strong advocate for patients and their families. As time went by found myself bothered by how some patients in facilities were care neglected. I began to demand patients receive proper medical care and that their needs were met to standard when I visited. I always thought that if my grandparents were ever in a situation like theirs, I would want the best medical attentiveness. The conversations I had with each patient have been memorable. I could see how much a game of ball tossing meant to them in a visit. Or even just a small chat about their past life.
I was lucky enough to converse with daughters, wives, and husbands of some patients assigned to me. I must admit those conversations always hit home a little bit; they reminded me of my grandfather’s health decline. But, hearing about their memories with their loved ones also reminded me how those memories stay with you for life. The best stories to hear were the ones that showed how much love they had for one another. I always imagined my patients in a different light than they were then presently; it made me smile to know how happy they were.
After all these conversations and stories, I heard, my time as a volunteer ended as my career path called. Being a volunteer for a hospice helped me pick the career path I am in now. I’m grateful to be working at a company that TRULY cares for the care we provide our patients. Because I know how much that would mean to them (the patients) and their families. True Care puts patients and families first, going above and beyond to provide any and everything they need. During these trying times, the importance and benefit of having someone on the other end to have your back are essential. The best part is that we offer more than just hospice services. We have caregiving and home health services with the same outstanding care we abide by.
