Why Physical Therapy is Important

The aspect of home health care that is requested most frequently and becoming more popular is at-home physical therapy. There are many benefits for receiving physical therapy at home whether the patient is recovering from surgery, experienced a recent fall, or having a general weakness. Some of the top benefits of having home health physical therapy include the following:

  • Convenience. The therapist comes to you directly, there is no need to travel outside of your home. This is especially convenient for those patients that have a hard time ambulating.
  • One-on-one care. Home health PT focuses on one-on-one care between the patient and the physical therapist. Quality of care is better due to the undivided attention that patients receive.
  • Outpatient PT can be stressful. Having to go to outpatient physical therapy sometimes means having to share a therapy room with other patients, which can be distracting, crowded, and noisy. Therefore, patients focus more on the external factors rather than focusing on their recovery. That is all taken away when a patient is in the comfort of their own home.
  • Effective. Some patients have the misconception that physical therapy at home is not as effective as outpatient therapy. However, home health PT is just as, if not more, effective because the patient receives a personalized plan of care that is made specifically for them and their current level of need.
  • Increased Functionality. Since the patient is performing physical therapy exercises at home, it makes it easier for the patient to remember the exercise and remain compliant in doing them on their own, even after the physical therapy is over.
